Security Rounds

  • Security rounds are the primary means of insuring security in the building.
  • The first round of a shift should be the most detailed of all the shifts. This is where the Security Officer sets the standard for determining whether any security item changes or incident occurs later in the shift.
  • During rounds Security Officers are responsible for and should check the following items:
  • Where available, make rounds at key stations for documentation.
  • Use your senses; hearing, eyesight and smell when looking for problems.
  • Machinery, mechanical, electrical and telephone rooms should be closely examined for water leaks, electrical problems, hydraulic leaks, etc. Document minor items, immediately report and document major problems.
  • Unoccupied office lights are turned off and doors to hallways are locked, when instructed.
  • Be sure to check restrooms. (When entering a restroom of the opposite sex, knock and announce yourself before entering.)
  • Look for water leaks, broken windows; check doors and locks for proper operation, and any other maintenance problems as you make your rounds.
  • Where there are stairwells, check from top to bottom to insure there are no possible stay behind persons hiding.
  • Stairways should be clear of any items of furniture, trash or other obstacles. These are fire routes and must always be clear.
  • Where provided, inspect all CCTV cameras for any signs of tempering, frayed or broken wires and cables.
